Paul crept through the trees, praying that no one would find him: He had just slipped some poison into Ms. Maybel’s tea at the party, and she had toppled to the floor. Billy Jones was running after him through the forest: the detective had examined the teacup, and he’d seen Paul in the kitchen, pouring something into her drinking vessel before providing her with it, even though he’d tried his best to prevent the man’s gaze.
